Equal Rights Trust/Asylum Aid/Detention Action Workshop: “Statelessness in the UK”, 15 May 2012, Glasgow

The Equal Rights Trust, Asylum aid and Detention Action are jointly organising a free workshop on statelessness in the UK.

Date: 15th May 2012

Times: 1.30-5.30pm

Venue: Scottish Refugee Council,  5 Cadogan Square, Glasgow

Stateless persons are amongst the most vulnerable in the world today. There are more than 12 million stateless persons worldwide with over 600,000 in Europe and an unknown number in the UK. Most individuals and organisations working with migrants, asylum seekers and refugees would inevitably come into contact with stateless persons. Understanding how to identify them and which challenges they are likely to face, is a first step towards protecting them from human rights abuse. Having successfully delivered workshops on statelessness in both London and Cardiff, this next workshop in the series will be Glasgow for a Scottish audience.

If you are a lawyer, case worker or other professional who works with migrants, asylum seekers, refugees and/or detainees, if you work for an organisation that provides services to such persons, or if you are an academic with an interest in the field, this workshop is for you.

The workshop will cover the following issues: International and comparative legal frameworks pertaining to statelessness. Statelessness in the UK. The detention of unreturnable persons in the UK.

Please note, this is not a training programme.
