Call for Applications: CRER’s Political Shadowing Scheme 2011/12 for BME individuals

The Coalition for Racial Equality and Rights (CRER) invites applications from BME individuals for the new Political Shadowing Scheme.

CRER recognises that Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) people are under-represented in the Scottish Political arena. This scheme aims to address this under-representation by providing BME individuals with an opportunity to become politically engaged and gain a better understanding of public and political life.

The scheme provides participants with training on media skills; equality and diversity; presentation skills; campaigning and
lobbying; and the workings of local, Scottish and UK government. There are also visits planned to the
Scottish Parliament and Glasgow City Chambers.

Who can apply?
The Political Shadowing Scheme is open to all Black and Minority Ethnic individuals. You do not need to be a
member of a political party however a keen interest in politics; willingness to learn and commitment to the scheme is
essential. The time commitment is 2 days per month for 6 months (November 2011 –April 2012).

The closing date for applications is 21st October 2011. An introductory evening session has been organised
