This summer, the UK government is consulting the public on two major packages of changes to the immigration rules – on settlement rights of non-EU migrants (launched 9 June 2011) and family migration to the UK (launched 13 July 2011).
We have asked migrants, migrant community organisations, trade unions and leading academics from across Scotland to have their say on the changes the government is proposing. This short film gathers their voices, all sending the same message to the government: NO TO THE CHANGES IN IMMIGRATION RULES AS SET OUT IN THE CONSULTATION PAPERS!
Watch the short video and find out more on our Consultations Page!
agree with your comments on nonsense regarding changes to student visa, they’re shooting themselves in the foot, government completely ignores that UK and Scotland in particular need international students. UK government prefers to play tough on immigration and to fuel racist attitudes, rather than to protect legitimate interests and rights of international students!
however, totally disagree with what you’ve said about migrants from Eastern Europe. if UK government just could, they would try to restrict their rights, too. and we shouldn’t fall for the common stereotypes whether it’s about students, migrant workers, and no matter from what country! vast majority of East European migrants are highly qualified just like you are, but find it difficult -as other people from abroad- to get into better jobs.
